There’s Never Enough Time to Finish What You’re Doing
Life is like Super Mario Bros. in so many ways. First of all, I think everyone can agree that mustaches are awesome. Secondly, an overgrown turtle that breathes fire and has a spikey shell certainly seems like a viable terrorist for a kingdom of simpering mushroom people. I know I would be scared of it. (I mean, think about it: Ninja Turtle and a dragon have a love-child. Their offspring goes to college and has a one-night stand with a sea urchin. Blammo. Bowser is born some time later. I really don’t know what the gestation period on that kind of thing is.) And then, there’s time.
In life, as in Super Mario Bros., there never seems to be enough time for anything. Never enough time to save the princess, never enough time to go to the gym and the grocery store, and definitely never enough time to finish big projects. I gotta buck that last trend this week. Here’s my run-down:
- Finish roughly 12 or 13 projects for work, all without a due date. Just to be safe, though, I’d like to finish them by next Friday.
- Review my editor’s notes so I can help with some of his research.
- Conduct interviews for an article on GamesPlusBlog.com. (Hi, guys!)
- Go on a field trip to an arcade to get some ambiance notes and possibly talk to competitive fighting gamers of the female variety.
- Review MEGAFORCE membership applications.
- Finish the Champions Online “Blood Moon” quests before they disappear for a year.
And then, on top of all that, some time soon, I need to update my resume and send it out to a mess of staffing agencies and possible places of employment. Seriously, the job market isn’t just weak–it’s sitting in a hospital bed, propped up with pillows and breathing on a ventilator. Oh, and the writers’ market? Yeah, we cremated him last week.
The work never ends. A lot of it is fun, but even though I power through many of the challenges placed in front of me, it really feels like I’m running out of time to complete my quests to put forth good work, contribute meaningful content as a gaming journalist, and still find time to play Champions Online.
Good thing I finished Rachet and Clank over the weekend.
